Tubicium Records releases second disc in Music of a Golden Age series
Following on from its highly successful 2006 disc, Music of a Golden Age Vol.1, Australia's leading period brass ensemble, Australian Baroque Brass, captures the revolutionary sounds of the late 18th and early 19th centuries with the release of its second disc in the Music of a Golden Age series, Revolution.
The disc, released on Tubicium Records, features works by Mozart, Beethoven, Salieri, Schubert and other composers all working in a time marked by war, social change and intellectual upheaval.
Through the choice of repertoire, the disc also surveys the development of natural brass instruments, the technique of hand-stopping, through to a performance of one of the first works ever written for the valved horn, Schubert's "Auf dem Strom".
Musicians featured on Revolution represent Australia's most accomplished period instrumentalists including Australian Baroque Brass Artistic Director John Foster - natural trumpet, Darryl Poulsen - natural horn, Neal Peres da Costa - fortepiano and Kanen Breen, tenor.
Australian Baroque Brass was founded in 2003 by Sydney Symphony trumpeter John Foster. The group has pioneered the use of period brass instruments in Australia and has given the Australian premiere performances (on period instruments) of works by composers such as Biber, Altenburg, Vejvanovsky, Caldara, Schutz, Praetorious and many others. The ensemble gives numerous performances each year throughout Australia and internationally and is made up of Australia’s finest period instrumentalists, many of whom also hold key positions in Australian and international orchestras.
All Tubicium Records discs are available on this website and at fine retailers across Australia.
Also available in this series: Music of a Golden Age Vol.1 (Tubicium Records TR761901) Featuring the music of Monteverdi, Biber, Fatini, Scarlatti, Mozart, Speer, Bach, Buxtehude, C.P.E.Bach and Altenburg
