Brett Favell was born and raised in Cairns, Far North Queensland and comes from a family heavily involved in music in the region. He studied at the Qld Conservatorium of Music completing a Bachelor of Music in 1998, and worked for both the Queensland Philharmonic and Queensland Symphony Orchestras.  Brett has held Principal positions in the Queensland Youth Orchestra, and the Australian Youth Orchestra.

In 1998, Brett moved to Sydney and worked casually with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and in 1999 relocated to Munich, Germany, to study under Professor Wolfram Arndt, of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2000, Brett began working for Harmonic Brass, a professional brass quintet based in Germany, as a musician and clinician. With Harmonic Brass he toured extensively, touring Europe, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and America.

In 2002, Brett worked as Co-Principal Trombone for the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra under Eri Klas, and braved the winter chill. Brett recently returned to Finland, where he played with the National Finnish Opera in their production of Wagners' "The Ring Cycle".

Brett currently holds the position of Associate Principal Trombone with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
